PS: It seems this behavior occurs only with a cyberjack cardreader. I
have no problems with pcsctest and a KAAN Advanced or Tribank.

Chris,

REINER SCT's cyberjack card reader is not one of the readers currently
supported by the driver.  We have been working closely with Dr.
Ludovic Rousseau who is the main author of the CCID Open Source
project we are leveraging.  The Smart Card Reader Manufacturers can
contact him directly <email@hidden>  and get their smart
card reader support added.

Correcting my own post...

It would seem that indeed the Reiner SCT cyberjack reader works with the _updated_ driver made available, but not yet included within the shipping version of Mac OS X 10.5.4. We hope to include the updated driver in a future Software Update of Mac OS X, but until then, you can grab the installer we provided to the US Federal customers to correct multiple issues with Smart Card Services components.
