I extended another olive branch via private email after this, but it's now been more than 24 hours, so I give up. I'm only replying to this thread one more time in order to apologize to the list at large for allowing this ... whatever it is ... to continue in public for as long as it did. I hope that somehow through the smoke and haze you might have managed to glean some useful information about tilde expansion.
