Yes, he did; sorry for the repetition.

If there's a point you're missing, then I'm missing it, too, which is
why I asked the question.

 I didn't notice that the try-block solution was proposed yesterday,
but given that folks are still discussing alternatives, I'm wondering
if the OP finds it unsatisfactory for some reason, and if so, why.
