Have a look at
<ftp://ftp.macnauchtan.com/Software/Progress/tView.text> 4 kB ReadMe
<ftp://ftp.macnauchtan.com/Software/Progress/tViewInit> 2 kB
<ftp://ftp.macnauchtan.com/Software/Progress/tViewCmd> 2 kB

They are routines I use with curl that invoke a named Terminal window and pass requests, sometimes from AppleScript, to Terminal.app instead of a new instance of bash which is what do-shell script does.
