It's easy to get examples of bracket notation. Write a script for your favorite application that _does_ have a scripting dictionary. Then move the script to another machine where that application isn't installed, or remove the application from your machine and relaunch ScriptEditor, then open the script again.
ScriptEditor won't find the terminology resource, and will be forced to render your script in chevron notation.
Now about your problems about getting results out of the reply, that will be harder...
