    tell process "Dock"
        get position of list 1
    end tell
end tell

This one gives me:
NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError:4

Hello

I ran it under 10.4.8 and got this report:

tell current application
	do shell script "defaults read com.apple.dock orientation"
		"2007-01-12 10:42:38.293 defaults[514]
The domain/default pair of (com.apple.dock, orientation) does not exist"

I got the same error, also under 10.4.8.
