Re: Scripting Interface Design

Regarding the learning of AppleScript, I bought a book, read the out-of-date Apple user's manual, relied on my experience programming a number of other languages, and of course read the dictionaries of the applications. And nothing did the trick until I found this email list.

Although I could figure out most things myself, it seemed like I'd always come across a show stopper, something I just could not understand without help. I'd ask a question on this group, and not only get an answer, but also a background lecture as well.

So now I feel very comfortable. I understand the limitations of the language and that some apps have better implementations than others. I can read between the lines in the dictionary, and know that sometimes you have to play around with different approaches to a problem.

It would be nice if there was an excellent book on the subject, but I found that the book I had included examples that simply didn't work on my system. With nobody to ask I was simply stuck ... until I found this list.
