I'm trying to do a few operations on a selected event. But I can't figure out how to reference it. The event is already made-- if I were making it I'd say something like "set the_event to make new event at end with properties..."

How to do it for an existing event? I'm stumped.

Chris,
since you've made the event at the end of the other events why not

tell app "iCal" to tell calendar 1 to get last event -- or whatever proeprty of the event you want.

I think that Chris mentioned the new event just for comparison, but that he wants now is to be able to click on an arbitrary event in iCal and then run a script that operates on that selected event.

I spent a while last night with the iCal dictionary and Script Editor, and I wasn't able to find anything.

Thanks for clarifying, Neil.
Reading it again, I see your point but find the text ambiguous. May be it is I that am ambiguous. :)

Well, anyway, ical does not have the selected property, therefore, you can not refer to an event that is selected.
May be using GUI script.
Another possibility is a stay open script and a bit of patience.
