I tried to get the UUID on my machine
and I got:

power-mac-g5-de-yvan-koenig:~ yvankoenig$ diskutil list

Good starting point!

/dev/disk0

this is one of your disks. Not the mountpoint, but no problem. Just enter:

diskutil info /dev/disk0

and search for the UUID line
