cocoa handling null values

What is the best way to translate null values back and forth between cocoa and applescript? In particular I want to enable my users to set a property to a cocoa NULL from applescript. I see applescripts "null" and "missing value" but none of those seem to turn into a NULL on the cocoa side. Can anyone tell me what the best or expected way to do this is?
