Re: How to do photos in AppleScript?

There's a lot of historical reasons why there's no decent interchange at this point -- MacOS 9 vs. X, PICT vs. modern image formats, 32K data limits, etc.
Image Events sidesteps the issue by only dealing with image files.

You might consider doing something similar - requiring that any script-specified image be a file on disk. It really depends on what your use cases are.
