MacOSX1050: Script Editor problem opening scripts not in its default language

I have components in languages other than AppleScript. If I set Script Editor's default language in its preference pane to say Perl, quit, and then restart, then Script Editor will only open a script double-clicked from the Finder if it is in the default language. For instance if the default language is Perl, then Script Editor will not open a previously saved script in AppleScript.

This problem started on OS X 10.4. It did not occur on OS X 10.2 and 10.3.

Anyone else can verify this? Note that my components are not 'ascr' with a different manufacturer.
