You'll find it a lot easier just to get the 24U Appearance Osax for using
checkboxes, multiple text fields, etc. in dialogs. In fact it's much easier
than Dialog Director, although perhaps not quite so versatile. It's also
shareware. It should cover most of what you need. AS Studio is much more
versatile but - as you have discovered - has a steep learning curve before
you can get going. There's no alternative to reading and following the
entire "Building Applications with AppleScript Studio" and doing its
tutorials, then studying the Control Suite and Panel Suite in the
AppleScript Terminology Reference.
