If you can use "call method", try this.

URL string --> POSIX path

    set URLString to "file://localhost/Users/ssfactory/Desktop/"
    set theURL to call method "URLWithString:" of class "NSURL" with
parameter URLString
    call method "path" of theURL

    --> "/Users/ssfactory/Desktop/"


POSIX path --> URL string

    set POSIXPath to "/Users/ssfactory/Desktop/"
    set theURL to call method "fileURLWithPath:" of class "NSURL" with
parameter POSIXPath
    call method "absoluteString" of theURL

    --> "file://localhost/Users/ssfactory/Desktop/"

This works even with the special characters.
