RE: Re: changes in AppleScript and/or AS Studio in Tiger

And with Tiger's release looming close, there will be a number of folks here
who have had to remain silent that will have plenty of tips to share on that
day.

Loek,

Indeed, this list has both its more well-mannered folks and some that
could use some schooling in that area. Though the basic points that
were made earlier are sound: Apple is *very* strict regarding
discussion of non-released products, and they will even terminate one's
'expensive' membership if their policy of non-disclosure is breached.
We are bound to our developer agreements, as they are a contract.

That being said, I agree that it is in Apple's best interest to
disseminate development information so that as little software as
possible suffers the ill-effects of a major transition between large
releases. I struggled with this for 10.3/Panther's release, and
re-signed as a paid developer so that the people who depend on my
software wouldn't suffer bugs due to changes in 10.4/Tiger.

As well, being a developer with seed access (again, the 'expensive'
subscription) allows one to file bugs against unreleased products and
influence their development priorities.

It's a fact that you have to pay to play in this seed game, though
Apple makes it more affordable than many companies. Some development
programs I've seen start at US$1K with no 'free' programs to gain
access to SDK and API info such as those that many enjoy (i.e. -
Apple's 'online' developers).

Don't give up on this list; there's a lot of useful information that is
discussed openly here, and a great many of its contributors offer
without malice or spite. In spite of both of their flaws, both Apple's
development programs and this list are excellent in comparison to many
of their siblings elsewhere.

Best,

Steve Elliott
