Osacompile and apps

I notice that the Panther version of osacompile can now create
double-clickable OSX applications -- yay!

Can this capability be "retrofitted" to a machine running Jaguar -- I don't
want to update the machine yet as it is the backup server -- or can I
compile on my desktop machine "using terms from" for Retrospect-specific
stuff, copy the new app over and then run it?

Suggestions appreciated!
