Handler query - exchanging values


G'day,

I'm struggling with what I think should be a simple transfer of a variable from one handler to another.

Could someone please offer assistance?

In my hypothetical script below, all I'm trying to figure out is how to get the variable of oranges and grapes from the secondHandler back up into the firstHandler to use those values. I tried adding them as properties into the handler brackets but when run it states that the variable is not defined.

firstHandler()

on firstHandler()
        set apples to 1
        set bananas to 2
        my secondHandler(apples, bananas)
        if oranges is greater than bananas then
                display dialog "suck then screw face up"
        else if grapes is less than apple then
                display dialog "havanapple"
        end if
end firstHandler

on secondHandler(apples, bananas)
        if apples is 1 then set oranges to 3
        if bananas is 2 then set grapes to 4
end secondHandler
