Why does it save them as PowerPC only? Why not Universal?
Because single-file applets have a number of different deficiencies that bundled applets don't, and we didn't want to spend time updating a format we'd like people to quit using. (Understanding, of course, that they are still useful for running on old systems. By definition, however, none of those are Intel.) The current UI does not make this clear, admittedly.
