Re: OT: formal prefixes

Since we seem to be observing International Pedantry Day today on the
list, I'll jump in and point out that the spelling is actually
„Fraulein", and it should be so capitalized (along with all German
nouns).

To make the discussion more complete

In the 60s Fräulein and Frau were used. (Fräulein with ä)
A "Fräulein" became "Frau" after she got married.
And a man is called "Herr" as soon as he is older than a boy.
An older woman became "Frau" in a certain age (>40).
But my teacher Fräulein Koch insisted to be "Fräulein" at the age of 70.

In the 70s womens liberation insisted, that every women
has to be called "Frau".
In the case men didn't accept to drop the word "Fräulein"
they called them "Herrlein
(Deer = Reh, tiny deer = Rehlein)

And today?
Well, an older "Herr" in a coffeshop may call the waiter "Fräulein".
An it depends on the tip whether the waiter will accept it or not.
