Re: Apple User Groups and Apple Stores

Barbara, to answer your questions in the Phoenix, AZ area:

1. There is no special relationship or rapport with the two apple stores. Before the first opened, it seemed that they wanted us, but after opening we were just customers.

2. The store demo area is offered for meetings but the typical sitting would be about 15 or 20 on benches with no backs. The one time we tried it we had about 40 standees who vowed to never go again. Also, the staff put on a generic sales pitch rather than the promised subject.

3. We are told that it's against apple store policy to send any of their staff to do programs for user groups.

4. There is no special pricing for mug members.

5. We had been told initially that they would hand out our membership brochures but found that they instead referred customers to the mug locator to find something on their own.

I always hope that other experiences are more positive.

I am curious :)
Do we have any idea of how many User Groups have been able to establish special rapport with their local Apple Store?
IF so , how is the relationship assisting the MUG?
Can the MUG use Apple Store premises for meetings or programs?
Are Apple Store staff available to "do" programs for the MUG?
Any special discounts for the MUG members?

This came up on the list a year ago or longer. AM curious about the current state of Apple Store and Apple User Group relationships.

Thanks
