Re: (no subject)

Just to give an update, I was able to get my wide area bonjour network successfully working with a Mac client, on the outside "view" of my dns server. However, on the internal "view" it does not. I'm awaiting a post on a DNS forum to make sure I have everything on that end configured properly, before I diagnose it to be a problem with the bonjour setup. My router does support the UPnP Home Gateway protocol, so I don't think that is an issue- unless there's something more I need to enable other than the feature on the router.

Is your IP address in the range of private IP addresses, for example 10.0.1.2? If yes, then you'll need a NAT gateway that either supports UPnP Home Gateway protocol, or one that supports NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP). Currently, AirPort base stations don't support either of these protocols.

... I'd like to know what is supported currently by the various manufacturers products in this area, and, to the extent possible, what might be coming. I've been looking at wireless station descriptions and this level of detail is really well hidden! What about Belkin, Linksys, etc ?

I really don't know which models support UPnP, but hopefully the newer models will.

I see, in the DNSServiceDiscovery Programming Guide section of the developer Bonjour documentation, "Starting with Mac OS X v10.4, Bonjour supports the automatic Network Address Translation (NAT) port mapping feature of Apple's Airport Extreme Base Station device".

I also see the first hit on Google for "NAT-PMP" is "The NaTPmP microphone pre-amp user guide ..." so maybe I'm too impatient !!

Currently, no shipping NAT gateways support NAT-PMP, however, this could change in the near future. Sorry I can't be more specific.
