I've always dragged the CD icon to the "eject" icon, just like I'd do
with any other sort of drive.  I hadn't thought about the case of
needing to eject a CD during startup, though -- most of the time, I
use computers with proper eject buttons on the drive itself, and then
it's simply a matter of hitting the button as soon as the computer is
powered on.
