But since Mac OS 9 didn't care about the leading dot, I can't imagine
any reason for standard get file (or nav services in classic) to
either.
How soon we forget! The leading dot in Classic could be used to refer
to drivers. Although that was obsolete by the late 80s/early 90s IIRC,
it was still advised not to name files starting with a dot even in
Classic :)
