Posix equivalent of FSExchange?

Sorry for the OT...

Is there a Posix equivalent way of doing FSExchange? I've just run into a terrible interaction between CodeWarrior and Subversion, where if you keep a file open in CW while you svn commit it, Subversion creates a new file and CodeWarrior sends all subsequent edits into a black hole. I think this problem could be solved if Subversion did a proper "safe save", but I don't know what the unix APIs would be to do it.
