Thanks for the quick response. Further investigation reveals that what I actually want is the content view. Is my only option there to add handlers at runtime?

Yes, unless you write your own window frame view and then create your own content view inside it. If you want to use the standard window appearance, then you should just install handlers on the content view at runtime.
