Not thread safe events?

In CarbonEvents.h there are "Not thread safe" near every carbon
event. What's the purpose of this in regards to events and what
exactly does it mean? I assume I can post events from a secondary
thread. Example:

/*
 *  kEventClassKeyboard / kEventRawKeyDown
 *  
 *  Mac OS X threading:
 *    Not thread safe
