I need to get a list of all registered apps on a particular Mac.

I believe there's no supported way to directly get the list of registered apps. As far as I am aware, System Profiler—which can generate a list of software—simply scans volume contents. From your email address, I'm guessing for your purposes it may work better to scan for files, too, since not all software may be registered at any given time.
