This doesn't have to wait for something to be deprecated. Back when 10.1 was

the current release of Mac OS X I was having some problems with PBCatSearch,

so I file a bug or contacted DTS (can't remember which), and their response

was to use FSCatalogSearch instead.


Well, there's two ways to look at that:
- If you wanted a workaround that could be used that same day, without waiting for an OS update, switching APIs was the only option
- They were preparing to deprecate PBCatSearch anyway; you just got advance notice
