Which just shows that you're abusing command-line arguments to have
the functionality of configuration files in the first place, IMO.

well, using the argv to select which config file is in use, actually. its not abuse: its administration.

and there are other args too: in some cases clients have 'runtime keys' which, through necessity, change frequently. existing systems are already in place to administer these keys through argv ..
