my understanding it's a variation of 'aete' resource? I looked at it
for about 30 min. long time ago and that's the impression I got.
If someone knows more, I would like to hear about it.
They are more or less a variation on an aete, but what a variation.
Unless you have some tool for creating aetes, using an sdef file is
so much easier than writing an aete manually, as I used to do. The
sdef file is xml based. I'd been putting off adding further
AppleScript capabilities to my app because I was reticent to jump
into the twisted and fragile syntax of aetes too often, but using an
sdef I'm able to add things at will because it's so straightforward.
I use the sdp CLI tool to generate a .r file from my sdef.
Someone else has already suggested the sdp and sdef man pages for
more information, I think. There are sdef examples in /Developer/
Example/Scripting Definitions as well. It took a bit of figuring out,
but that was all I needed to get going. Christopher Nebel from Apple
was also helpful on the applescript-implementors list.
