Using these three sources I was able to figure out what parts I
needed to accomplish something similar to what you are doing.

Hi there,
I am on a Mac PowerBook 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo. I am writing an
application where I would like to have the trackpad perform as a 2
dimensional XY controller. The idea is to detach the trackpad from the
task that is usually supposed to perform - moving and clicking the
cursor - and making it into an independant USB controller.
I have found some potentially useful functions in IOHIDLib.h and in
IOHIDParameter.h, but I was wondering if anybody can point me to some
code examples or has some suggestions or tips regarding this.
Thank you.
