Java, ruby & python will not replace C/C++ (performance reasons).
Obj-C may if MS changes it's development environment to that and
convinces it's 10s of 1000s of developers to.
MS *is* changing its development language, but to C#. Would everyone
here be happier if Apple dumped Carbon for a C# API? I think not. Take
a look at the Windows platform and ask yourself where all the
interesting stuff is happening. Hint: it's not in the old Win32 API.
UI development strategies are changing as platforms start to present a
different experience. Let's face is: C/C++ are not good languages to
develop UI's in, which is why both Apple and MS are looking elsewhere.
Just be thankful that Obj-C/C++ supports C/C++ without some
intermediary language/managed code. I bet most people on the list
would be even more pissed if they had to routinely deal with managed
C++. Now *that's* ugly.
