Now I'm wondering, if I wanted to convert my application and its 60

That sounds like a fantastic feature request! If Apple expects
Carbon developers to switch it makes sense that we aid in that
transition as much as possible. I know we in the HIToolbox group
have made that our goal for the last two years.
If that's true, why didn't anyone at Apple think of this before now?
This is probably the single most useful thing you could do to assist
developers in such a transition, and no one thought of it? What *did*
you (as in the folks at Apple) think of to assist with this
transition? Why do you need a developer to suggest this? Isn't it a
blatantly obvious need if you're going to wind down the usability of
Carbon? Hasn't this been obvious for years?
I'm sure the IB team would love to hear your feedback.
They don't want to hear my feedback. I had to use IB back in Panther
when I was converting over 50 'DLOG'-based windows and my menus to
nibs. It was by far the single buggiest piece of crap I have *ever*
used, and not one bug got fixed until the next version came out in
Tiger. And that's not even counting the brain dead limitations. It
was like some college student's senior project that never got
finished. I probably wasted a minimum of three weeks dealing with
bugs and working around stupid limitations. I'm sure the current IB
was not responsible (there is no "I" in team -- especially when
there's no one on the team ;), but let's just say the experience left
some deep scars.
Anywhere else Apple can better help you through this transition?
Sure. I need the e-mail address of someone who will convert my Carbon
nibs to Cocoa nibs and rewrite all the code that needs to be
rewritten but won't result in anything any user will be able to detect.
Please don't take any of this personally, Bryan. You've always been
helpful and receptive, and I have no issues with you. There are,
however, others within Apple whose names I don't know with whom I'd
love to spend an hour or so in a locked, soundproof room.
