In the current implementation your provided data is immediately copied to the shared pasteboard. Although I can imagine a future where this may not be the case. I think providing the data up front so the Pasteboard API can at least make a valid retain is important.

Or do I need to use CFDataCreate? I'm guessing CFDataRef can't know when it needs to copy the bytes into its own internal buffer when my local copy has been destructed, correct?
