The release note is a bit opaque on this; sorry about that.

The kCFPreferencesAnyUser/kCFPreferencesAnyHost source is supposed to correspond to /Network/Library/Preferences. However, this particular source has been disabled since Mac OS X 10.0. Historically it was backed by a plist in the wrong location (namely /Library/Preferences/Network, which isn't an "AnyUser/AnyHost" location). This wasn't doing what people expected (whether they realized it or not).

If what you're looking for is "All users on this computer", then you're looking for kCFPreferencesAnyUser/kCFPreferencesCurrentHost which corresponds to /Library/Preferences.

Another way of stating "AnyHost+AnyUser" is "AllHosts+AllUsers (in the universe)". It doesn't really make sense to store preferences in such domains, as the values should logically apply to everybody, in which case -- if actually implemented -- it is the universal behavior of the app, and it's not a preference. Or consider another case: the user types in an app's license key, enabling all the features of the app, and the app writes the license key into the AnyHost+AnyUser domain. Logically, all that has to happen is for one user to go buy the software and license it, and now all users on any machine should be licensed. Obviously, that's unlikely to be what the software company wants; more likely, the license would be for a particular computer or for a particular user.

Uhm, this is exactly the behaviour I want. If a user enters an SN, I want the software to be registered for all users. I want it to be registered if they use system migration (if they buy a new computer) or if they use NetBoot. Is this saying this is no longer possible to do via CFPreferences on 10.5?
