Documented in the newly updated File Manager Reference:
<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Reference/File_Manager/Reference/reference.html#//apple_ref/c/func/FSMoveObjectToTrashSync>

"This function moves a file or directory to the Trash, adjusting the
object's name if necessary. "

empty before?

AFAIK in Leopard (and possibly even in Tiger) the Dock gets the
relevant filesystem notifications and updates its display no matter
how the file ended up there. Are there any network volumes which
support moving files to trash but don't have filesystem notifications?
