That's what I thought, but when I tried to set the size in a Finder window the slider maxed out at 128. How do I make them larger? In any case, my default is to use icon previews at 128. That's fine for all of my other icons, and I'd prefer to not have to go larger just to compensate for something like borders and shadows I don't need or particularly want.


Another poster mentioned Cover Flow, but a separate way to access the larger icons is to enable HiDPI mode (only accessible via Quartz Debug for now). You will see if you set your desktop scale to 2.0 that icons are still sharp.
