I have posted a variation of this issue previously - but have yet to find a
solution- so, ever hopeful, I am posting again to see if anyone has any
suggestions. I have also called Apple tech support but they had no
suggestions.
We use the simple finder with our student workstations for a variety of
reasons -- last year when I was running a 10.2.8 server with 10.3.4 panther
clients I had no issues with the aliases not showing up in the simple
finder.
This year, we have a 10.3.5 G5 server and the workstations were all upped to
10.3.5. I have set up WGM to put the "my applications" folder in the dock.
The simple finder aliases still work on the client machines that were 10.3.4
and upgraded to 10.3.5. However in 2 instances I am finding that the simple
finder shows only 10% of the aliases to the programs on the HDs. The 2
times when this happens:
1. when I used my image of the 10.3.4 machine (last year's that was working)
to clone new emacs that arrived in September
2. when I had an older emac crash then refuse to boot and on the advice of
Apple tech support I re-installed the OS (my original disks were 10.3) and
then updated the computer to 10.3.5
The aliases that don't show up are OS9 applications -- I have tried moving
those applications from the Applications (OS9) folder to the Applications
folder - but that didn't help either.
Also, occasionally, on random machines, an alias will disappear from the
user's "my applications" folder.
The only way I can get the aliases to show up is to log in as the local
(admin) user and run each and every program. Anyone have a better solution?
Is there a plist somewhere that controls the aliases? Is there a folder??
Thanks
Lynne
