I have a bad feeling that something in the USB subsystem is corrupted
in my lab image, but just in case not...
I have a lab of 30 machines which all work perfectly except when one
tries to mount a USB pen drive. Sometimes it will work fine and mount
and other times it will not. When the drive fails to mount, it appears
in system profiler but not in Disk Utility; basically the machine knows
there's a USB device there but doesn't see that it's a storage device.
Re-starting the machine will usually cause the drive to mount OK a few
times but the problem comes back fairly swiftly.
This happens fairly consistently over 30 machines in one lab (1GHz
eMacs, 1.25GHz eMacs and G4 (PCI Graphics)) but not in another (which
has much the same hardware and software but uses a slightly different
image) and the make or capacity of the pen drives seems to make no
difference.
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
