Is it true what was said about the Apple DVD software staying permanently at one region after so many plays?

If you, say, put a Region 2 disc in a player set to Region 1, it will ask if you would like to change the drive region. You can change it up to 5 times anytime. After that, the last-selected region is unchangeable.
