After DiskWarrior work a new OS 'archive' install failed with errors.
Booted from CD Installer or from an external FireWire drive, running
DiskUtility results in a refusal to erase the disk as it says it can't
unmount it. Other attempts to unmount it cause messages about
applications still running.
Also - I can't even delete individual folders or files on the drive
I have never ever seen this before.. OS-X or 9
Does anyone know of any way to force an initialise from the Terminal
or in singles user mode?
You could try this:
Boot into single user mode from your external firewire then do this
(taken from
http://www.afp548.com/article.php?
story=2004080413321761&query=diskutil):
So to use diskutil in SUM:
1. Boot into single user mode. (command-s)
2. Do 'fsck -yf' to check and or fix the disk.
3. Do 'mount -uw /' to mount the boot disk in R/W mode.
4. Do '/usr/libexec/register_mach_bootstrap_servers /etc/mach_init.d'
5. Now you need to start DiskArb up. Do 'SystemStarter start Disks'
6. Now you can use 'diskutil' as you usually would.
You should then be able to do 'diskutil eraseDisk' on the disk in
question. I don't think it should even be mounted at this point so you
shouldn't run into the same problem.
