Hi All,

Does anybody know how to fix the following error that I get when
trying to mount a file server via AFP?

I have one MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo computer that can't connect to file
servers using AFP. This laptop can connect using SMB.
The problem occurs with all AFP servers.
The problem exists with all user accounts on the laptop. These are
local accounts as opposed to managed accounts.
The problem is not specific to 10.4.8 or Core2Duo MBPro's since
another Core2Duo MBPro can connect using AFP to the same servers.
...

What is your afp mount string?
The share names are cases sensitive, do the server and share names match including case?
afp://server/Share
