Thread-topic: Word no opening .DOC files by default[Scanned]
On an individual Mac you can fix this issue by 'Get Info" on an offending file and change the 'open with' application to MS Word, then click 'Change All'.

Hi folks,
I am having an interesting problem that I am hoping someone can shed some light on. My Principal is using a sharepoint on my 10.4.8 WGM server from his Windows XP Dell Notebook to share files with the faculty (who are all in a managed client environment running 10.4.6 and above). He connects to the share point and drags over Word and Excel files for the teachers to view. When the teachers login and open up the folder, the files show up with the .doc file extension but with generic icons. Doubleclicking on the files does not always open up Word but rather Text Edit. If Word is open, then it usually works correctly or once one of the files is opened from Word (File-Open), the rest follow suit. Is there a way to get Word in an MCX environment to always recognize .doc files as Word files? It is just enough to confuse the heck out of the teachers.
Any advise or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
