For quite a while now we've had a problem that has more or less stumped
me. Computers will lock up in the process of logging in. After a bit of
experimentation I discovered several things about it.

We need more info to help. What version of OS X are you running? What is
the hardware its running on? Are you using network home directories? Are
you using an X Serve to host them and/or host MCX? If so what version of
OS X is on the X Serve? Are you doing any kind of any Active Directory
integration?
