As far as the MS Office issue try...
In Applications, in the MS Office folder make sure the "do fonts"
application is gone!!  This will save much headache with font loading.
Use the FontBook for the user having the issue and ask the program
to "resolve conflicts"  Also, make sure the users fonts folder is empty
or at a minimum ONLY contains fonts which are NOT loaded on your
standard image.

Just to add that when making changes in the Office 2004:Office folder, I  tend to make a new folder,Office 2004:Office(disabled), and put the DoFonts plugin in there.
Plus, I copy the fonts from the Office installation to /Library/Preferences/Fonts location, making them available system-wide.

Also, if you feel that MS Office is in any way causing Network Account-based issues, a simple google search will throw up dozens of possible avenues, including an extremely useful faq at mvps.org
