Yes, this may cause a problem. I will keep looking into where the logs are stored.

However, the /dev/console has sorted out the issue I was having. Thank you all again.

Great. Thank you very much. 
Note that Fast User Switching throws a spanner in the works.
If several users are logged in, and the last one "switched" to the
loginwindow.... root owns /dev/console again until someone re-attaches
their console session.
