I little trick I discovered. I just use a normal transparent layer in photo shop, Draw mw icon including shadows, etc..., and then save the image as a standard PhotoShop file. Then open it in Preview and save it. Preview's default method of saving is as a tiff file. It works OK. I still with I had more control over the alpha channel, but I've got an older version of PhotoShop (5,0) that I can't find the command to add an alpha channel.

When you see it in the finder, it will have a black background wherever it's transparent. But it will look fine in PB and when you use it. I don't know why the preview pane in the finder can't also display it correctly?

To create a transparent TIFF in Photoshop, create an alpha channel,
and make it white where the object should be opaque and black where it
should be transparent.
