I have some sources, that I want to backup. I burned the folder containing my sources on a CD (under 9.1 using Toast5).
When I try to open a file (*.h, *.m) under 9.1 (Metrowerks) this is not possible.

Why not just install 10.1 over your 10.0.4 installation? You don't have to do a clean install. I personally just cp -R'd them to another partition. I am surprised that you can't access them under 9.1 -- what error is given?

Do I have to do chmod or something like that, before burning the CD (I usually program under admin)?

You shouldn't need to. By "admin" I assume you mean an "admin user", not root.

What is the best strategy for saving our work?

Depends on your installation.
