Document-based NSApplication startup behavior

Hi,
I would like to better know the startup sequence for a document-based application and how/when the delegate should handle the openFile: openTempFile and openFileWithoutUI methods, particularly when the application is invoked by an AppleScript and a document should be opened not showing the user interface.

I know how to handle the general applicationShould... applicationWill..., applicationDid... methods, but there is no documentation neither I can find any explanatory reference to the openFile... methods in the many Cocoa books which I own.

Any help would be appreciated.
