`man 2 intro`, or look up "intro" in the Xcode doc window. Error 38 is listed as: 38 ENOTSOCK Socket operation on non-socket. Self-explanatory.

I would have expected EADDRINUSE, but maybe Apple's error propogation is sub-optimal here. Have you checked that sockPort is non-nil and sockFD isn't -1?
